Crazy things are happening in the shelves that proudly offer organic goods and behind closed organic doors. Over the past several years monolithic corporations [i.e — favorites such as Philip Morris] have been stealthily buying out organic organizations and also offering us their own interpretations. For example, Boca products are of Kraft/Altria/Philip Morris origin [their Boca website looks like a Burger King ad] and those well designed Dagoba chocolate bars are owned by Hersheys.. and there is just so much more that you’ll just have to check it out yourself with this map.
Since the organic market sector has gone supernova in profit, it seems that the ‘organic movement’ has gone morally gray. For instance, in order to remain organic, Stonyfield Farm imports a portion of the milk that goes into their yogurt from New Zealand in powder form. How can we justify eating organic when the ingredients are being shipped from thousands of miles away in the southern hemisphere? Surely, there must be a balance in the equation.
All the information is there, when there is will there will be a way!
In the meanwhile, we can look at the locavores for inspiration.

We don’t import anything from New Zealand. That’s a rumor that’s been floating around for a few months.
