Evening Introduction Friday, June 22nd, 7-9 P.M.
Day Long Workshop Saturday, June 23rd, 10 A.M.- 5 P.M.
In this program, Rinpoche, assisted by Tulku Sherdor, the Director of Blazing Wisdom Institute, who was recently enthroned as the rebirth of Naysang Walshul Lama Dorje Nyima, a lineage master who was Rinpoche’s great uncle, will present the basic elements of the path– renunciation, bodhicitta and the view of emptiness — from a variety of perspectives, showing the basic unity at the core of all dharma lineages. There will be practical
instructions and exercises offered to show how these core elements of the path may be cultivated and applied.
This program is also an opportunity for American Buddhists to learn, first-hand, about the current state of Dharma in Tibet , and its hope for the future. Recognized by His Holiness the Dalai Lama and others as an incarnation of the great master Do Khyentse Yeshe Dorje, Rinpoche is the 10th throne holder of the great ” Blue Valley ” monastery, in Golok. He received not only the Long Chen Nying Tig and Pema Nying Tig
treasure lineages from his father, His Holiness Orgyen Kusum Lingpa, but also spent years studying the curriculum at Drepung Monastery in South India , under the personal care of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

25TH Annual Mermaid Parade
King Neptune: Adam Savage, host and star of MythBusters!!!
Registration Begins at 10 AM
Parade begins at 2 PM, Rain or Shine!
This is the 25th Anniversary, which is not bad for a parade that celebrates creatures without feet! This year, we salute Mythbuster Adam Savage as 2007 King Neptune! Adam is particularly appropriate this year, as the myth that Coney Island is closing needs to be busted. Coney Island is not closing down and the Mermaid Parade will celebrate its 50th, 75th and 100th anniversaries! Adam will be a great King, so when you see him on the route,
give him a big Coney Island greeting!
And don’t forget the Mermaid Parade Ball! This year, thanks to our friends at Taconic Investment Partners the Mermaid Parade Ball will be held in the landmarked Childs Restaurant Building! We’re very excited to host the first public event in this space in 60 years! Find out about the ball here and buy your tickets to this great event here.

Microscopes And Mystics with Neil D. Theise:
Explorations into The Nature Of Body & Being Through The Study of Stem Cells Western biology and medicine are “Western” because they derive from the foundational notion that bodies are made of cells. The success of this cell doctrine has come through a steadily reductionist approach, breaking the body down into ever smaller constituent parts. However, one under appreciated implication of contemporary stem cell research is the need
to start reassembling these pieces into an interactive whole, the reverse of the reductionist approach. Further analysis from such a “systems biology” approach undermines the concept of the cell itself as having independent, inherent existence and opens the door to other just as useful and accurate models of the body. Such other models may be a close, or perhaps even exact parallel to Indo-Tibetan medical traditions such as the identification of coarse, energy, and subtle bodies. Moreover, extending this analysis
downward in scale, below the molecular biology level into the quantum realm, the science yields a precise description of key features of Buddhist metaphysics: the relationship between the Absolute and the Relative, emptiness of inherent existence, interdependence, and impermanence.
Neil Theise, MD is a diagnostic liver pathologist and adult stem cell researcher at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York City , where he is Professor of Pathology and Associate Professor of Medicine. He is credited with establishing the existence of human liver stem cells and is also considered a pioneer of multi-organ adult stem cell plasticity, publishing on that topic in the leading jo urnals Science, Nature, and Cell. His current
passion is applications of complexity theory to cell, molecular and tissue biology. He is a long time Zen student of Roshi Enkyo O’Hara at the Village Zendo in New York . His writings can be found on line at www.neiltheise.com .
