Sometimes we fall into hard times. We manage most of the time, even when it seems like all odds are against us, angels come flying in from nowhere and gently lift us up, point the way, open doors, or give us the strength to keep on keeping on. Have you ever had this happen to you? I have. Now, you may not call them angels, and perhaps they are not. Perhaps, it is just the nature of the human spirit to lend a hand, to help those in need, to make that connection with a kindred soul, for however brief the moment may be, and that can change lives. Heck, it can save lives.

Here is your opportunity to be an angel and have fun doing it. Blacklight, from Freak Factory NYC, a humble and multi-talented, most beautiful soul is having a benefit for his mother who has fallen onto quite unfortunate circumstances. He’s been working hard to bring her back onto her feet and this benefit is the last piece in the his plan for her return from homelessness.

Now for the detail of the party written in the words of Blacklight, himself. I couldn’t have said it better so I decided to keep his letter intact. Come one, come all. You won’t be dissapointed. It is possible to have fun while doing a good deed, and New Yorkers know best how that works.

This Sunday, the 24th, 2007,
I will be throwing the final fundraiser to cement my mama and sister in
their own apartments after having by circumstance and blah blah ended up
in a homeless shelter in Cali.
They are out now and this will be the seal on getting them into their own
places. Once in, they will be able to stand on their own, but for the
initial push, they’re gonna need help. I have chosen to supply that help.

So. The event will be a small one, in the middle of the day on Sunday
beginning at roughly 12:30 and going until 4:00 in the afternoon. It will
be held at C.O.S.M. [ chapel of sacred mirrors ] which has been kind
enough to allow me use of the space in the name of community and the
commitment to support that community.

There will be a silent auction of some of the pieces, as well as some prints, some t-shirts, and other ways of taking home my art. For those that do not know, I do illustration as well as fashion design, accessories, shoulder bags, etc.. and I intend to have a little of everything on sale so that you can all walk away with
SOMEthing. By the way, that day is also the day I was born, I will be
turning 32.. YEEEEEAAAHHHHH!!!

I have a LOT of really ridiculously talented friends, and I am going to
have a few of them from various tribes of my life stop through to perform for you all. my life intersects a great many circles, a cross section of which will be in attendance on this majikal day. it’s gonna be kinna mellowed insanity. there will be a sliding scale admission of $20 -$10 depending on your finances and where you be pocket-wise.. ALL of which will be going STRAIGHT to my mama and sister so please feel free to pay at the highest level you are able.
