Chaos Brigade
The concept is none other than having a replica of the Carnival of Venice, a beautiful parade that dates back as far as the 1200’s. In this parade, the participants are fully disguised, the costumes are up to the costume wearer, the only requirement is the Mask, so typical of this event. What we would to is show up in full venetian regalia in St. Marks (venice carnival begins in St. Mark’s Square) and spread out through the downtown area around Little Italy, then the entire ‘parade’ itself can reconvene three evenings for the weekend and stop at things, like rocky horror, personality crisis, performances, etc. The dates would be around the same as the carnival in Venice and it would last through out the weekend. This Antician Event is brought to you by Questionable Antics

Get your hot gospel and furious preaching Saturday February 6th at the downtown 92Y in Tribeca. We are celebrating the vendors and shop owners of Canal Street under severe threat from King Mike and his gentrifying cleanup crews. Stop the sweeps on Canal Street! “It’s an act, a kind of performance art, almost a form of religion. We’re Starting, the Fear Is Departing…The Fear is departing with Reverend Billy and the Life After Shopping Gospel Choir Saturday February 6th. Consumerism faded in 2009. Grosses down 6% and big retail flat-lined at Christmas. Celebrate with us - and in the coming year let’s build on alternative economies, blank billboards, de-commercializing schools and keeping the public parks public. Jivamukti Yoga School Presents: Yoga for Haiti
With Jivamukti Teachers Cassandra Rigney, Dechen Thurman, Jules Febre, Matthew Lombardo, Monica Jaggi, Rima Rabbath, and Ruth Lauer-Manenti Musical accompaniment by Kelly Britton. “Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu” May all beings everywhere be happy and free and may the thoughts, words and actions of my own life contribute in some way to that happiness and to that freedom for all. Haiti’s situation is obviously very dark for all beings as they suffer the aftermath of the earthquake. It is common during natural disasters for aid to be focused only on human beings as there is a great need for food, water, shelter and medicine. However, many animal beings who are also in the same situation tend to be forgotten during a disaster. Jivamukti Yoga School is joining forces with P.E.T.A (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) and ARCH (Animal Relief Coalition for Haiti) to relieve the suffering of animals affected by the earthquake. P.E.T.A, with the help of funds raised by the Jivamukti Yoga School community, will be working to aid as many animals as possible in the shortest amount of time. Check P.E.T.A.’s blog regarding the Haitian situation by clicking here.dogs. Please join us for this program that will transform this devastating experience into a reason to cultivate compassion, generosity and love towards all beings. “You can never go wrong chanting the names of God. Whatever names resonate for you. You can never go wrong chanting auspicious words like shanti-peace. Those sounds are like medicine. They can actually dismantle elemental forms or beings that we have created through negative thoughts, words and actions.” - Sharon Gannon. The first 100 people to register for this benefit will get Kelly Britton’s CD “Refuge”, plus the first 50 people will also get Ruth Lauer-Manenti’s MP3 CD “An Offering of Leaves.” Also over 20 In class privates will be raffled off during the program. Donations can also be made by going to the P.E.T.A.’s website. Sponsored by Teachersforhaiti.

Shamanic Ritual with Itzhak Beery
Phantasmaphile is honored to present an evening ritual with Shaman Itzhak Beery, co-founder of the NY Shamanic Circle. This ceremony will focus on Meeting Power Animal Spirits: The Journey to Non-Ordinary Realities. Participants will be introduced to the principles of the shamanic belief system. The workshop teaches the techniques of shamanic journeying which is used by shamans to enter non-ordinary realities. Participants will learn to travel to the other worlds to obtain personal Power animal spirits, to connect with these spirits, and to retrieve specific knowledge. This knowledge can be used in our world to heal, to settle disputes, to communicate between the living and the dead, to create abundance, and to pray for the well-being of the environment, for others and ourselves. Accompanied by drumbeat, participants learn to journey to the animal energies and shape-shift into them, allowing each person to merge with their animal nature—a reflection of our innermost self that represent those qualities we need most in this world, but which are often hidden, or repressed.***Please bring a pillow, towel, or cushion to sit on.

Doctors Without Boarders Haiti Benefit
So it’s been a minute and I figured the best way to start a new decade was for some good ol’ fashioned altruism. Next Thursday February 11, I’m hosting a benefit at D.B.A. bar for Doctors Without Borders to support their Haiti efforts. I’ve admired this organization for years as they are literally the first responders in any international humanitarian crisis. Check out their site for more details www.doctorswithoutborders.org. Proceeds from the bar will be contributed to the cause and to up the ante, I will personally match (as much as humanly possible) any donations contributed by you folks. So to keep you moving we have Supreme Trading partners in crime DJ Elsewhere and Knomad as well as Brooklyn Bowl resident DJ Jonny Santos. We have happy hour prices going all night with $1 off all liquor and D.B.A. bar has an amazing drink list. Come for the good, come for the music, come for a hug, Thursday February 11. Digital Media Equipment Donations
Media Make Change has launched a campaign, Project Haiti Speaks as an effort to provide digital communications equipment and resources to volunteer relief workers and Haitian citizens. The main goals of Project Haiti Speaks are two-fold: 1) to provide multimedia support to relief organizations on the ground, and 2) to provide a multimedia platform for volunteers, workers, citizen journalists, and survivors so their stories can be told. Media Make Change wants to support the important work of other NPO/NGO organizations and individuals in Haiti. We feel it’s crucial that the experiences and stories in Haiti be told from perspectives not necessarily filtered by various forms of mainstream media. So if you have any old equipment lying around your apartment, dust it off and put it to good use. Here’s what we need: new or old—but still usable—digital cameras, camcorders, laptops, batteries, flipcams, and other digital media equipment.

To launch these events, we are holding a Symposium at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, NJ, on Saturday, March 13, 2010. If you are interested in exhibitor space and/or advertising in the Symposium’s “Journal of Citizen Action Against Beach Litter” highlighting data and trends (5,000 printed), contact Emily Hackett at programs@cleanoceanaction.org. The journal will be distributed to citizens, elected officials, and media at the event and will be on COA’s website throughout 2010-2011. The cleanups will be held at over 60 locations across NJ from 9am-noon on April 24 and October 23. Visit www.cleanoceanaction.org for more information and we hope to see you there!

3. Psychedelic Salon: “Forget getting a permanent job. Forget careers and the quest for financial stability. They are all false gods, sent to you by the Capitalist elite on Wall Street, whose primary goal is to trap you into a life of servitude.” “You still haven’t figured it out yet, have you?” began Shadow. “It should behoove us all to take the words of the Empire’s leaders at face value. They have declared what they call a War on Drugs. Of course, that’s a lie on its face, because they aren’t putting drugs into prison cages, they’re putting people in them. This is no war on drugs, William, this is a war on consciousness, as Richard Glen Boire says. It’s a war on people who aren’t satisfied with the status quo. It is a war on the very people that we are going to need to get us humans out of this mess we’ve created for ourselves. And if this is really a war, as they want to call it, then you and I, young William, you and I are their sworn enemies.” “Unlike that insidious John Galt, I am advocating that We the People go on strike and remove our minds from their System of servitude. For we are fully aware that it isn’t the handful of CEOs who are the producers. No, in fact, they are the looters now. It is time to keep our best ideas to ourselves, here in our own community.”

))Ongoing Classes((
Hoop School - Hooping Instruction/Hoop Sculpt/Hoop Story
An exciting hoopdance series that will push you to learn WAY faster than you could figure it out on your own. Each series will feature a guest instructor for a day to pass on his or her best gems of “hoopocity”. Why struggle through months and years of frustrating trial and error trying to decipher all the cool tricks by yourself like I did (and many expert hoopers did) when you can take advantage of our collective knowledge and experience, served to you on a silver platter? Hoosculpt is a fun-conventional fitness class for beginners. No experience necessary. Join us for a fun, funky, fabulous adventure into fitness that will challenge your idea of “working out”. Using only adult hoops and your own body weight, we’ll boost our stamina, core strength, coordination, and flexibility. Hoop moves like jump-throughs and revolving doors, partner up for circuit training, mix it up with games: rainbow ring, hoop limbo, hoop chaser, hoopstacle course. And maybe you’ll learn a few fancy tricks in the process. This is not a dance class; you will Sweat. Hoopstory: An affordable, weekly hoop jam for those who prefer something loose and casual. Write your own story! No rules, no teachers, no formal instruction. Learn from your friends and peers. We provide great tunes and a nice space: centrally located, climate controlled, sprung floors, full length mirrors & bathrooms. You just show up with $6 and a hoop and play.
