Gnosis: The Not-So Secret History of Jesus

May 9th, 2008

orpheuscrossthm2.jpg[The Electric Jesus] • Christianity originated in mystery schools where the rites of baptism, annointing, communion, and resurrection led initiates on a sacred path to inner knowing. But a sadistic emperor, literalist churches and 2,000 years of bad translations have covered up the origins of the greatest story yet to be told.

The Day We Died-In

January 22nd, 2008

american-soldiersm.jpg[The Electric Jesus] • With The New York Times reporting that 121 murders have been committed by US soldiers who have returned from Iraq and Afghanistan, I’ve been thinking back to the gutsiest and most foolish political action I ever did and how it gave me an unexpected mystical understanding of what it actually means to be a country at war.

wwjb.jpgIn this podcast, Jamye and I discuss Morgan Spurlock’s newest film, What Would Jesus Buy?. From the Mall of America to Walmart headquarters to “the promised land” of Disneyland, performance activist Reverend Billy and the Church of Stop Shopping embark on a difficult and hilarious spiritual crusade to save Christmas from consumerism. “If we could change Christmas, we could change the whole year,” says the good reverend. Could one movie do all this? PLAY PODCAST

Enlightenment: The Next Step in Evolution?

October 18th, 2007

enlightenmentverysmall.jpg[The Electric Jesus] In this podcast, a dose of ayahuasca, dancing DNA strands, and a lotus flower ride have my spirit guides answering the question I’ve always wanted to know: “It’s true; humans can become enlightened. In fact you already are…Now it’s time to remember.” Is enlightenment really possible or is it a cosmic carrot to grab for? As always, I’d love to hear your personal experiences and stories on the subject.

Welcome Back Burners

September 11th, 2007

double-rainbow.jpg{The Electric Jesus} What a long, strange burn it’s been. There was the dissident reveler who set the Man on fire early, a tragic suicide, tent-crushing whiteouts, and nearly 10,000 more revelers than the previous year. But with all of its craziness, the playa once again worked its magic, which can be seen in the double rainbow shown here. In this podcast, I share the first time, I “groked” Burning Man - a night involving alien dance camps, submarine-styled buses, and a dose of “spreckling” to rid me of my fear of death. As always, I’d like to hear your comments. How did your burn go? Were there any transformative moments you’d like to share? If you didn’t go, feel free to share your best/worst experience ever at the festival.

Celebrating Sacred Sex

July 25th, 2007

jamyeandjonnycampd05.jpgIt seems like sacred sex is becoming all the rage in urban centers on the coasts. Jamye and I decided to check out some of the players in this burgeoning scene at the Symposium on Sacred Sexual Communities, hosted by New Realities and Sexy Spirits. In this podcast, Caroline Muir and Joan Heartfield get their “heart on” through Divine Feminine workshops, Barbara Carrellas takes Urban Tantra to its titillating extreme, Anton Diaz gives up Latin dancing to seek his higher self, and Patricia Taylor shares the glory of three-hour expanded orgasms. We also discuss differences in how these communities are evolving in New York and San Francisco, and if the popular (and also controversial) OneTaste will make a splash with its recent expansion to the Big Apple.
